How to Choose the Best Blinds For Your Home
When it comes to choosing the right blinds for your windows, there's no perfect answer. It depends on several factors, and your own preferences and budget. With this in mind, it can be helpful to understand the pros and cons of each option, hopefully leading you to make a better-informed choice.
Vertical blinds are a particularly good choice if your windows are on the larger side. For example, if you have wide windows or sliding doors, vertical blinds make a lot of sense. If you think about a sliding door, it opens and closes from side to side, so it makes sense to have blinds that do the same. Having said this, if you have regular-sized windows, vertical blinds aren't recommended.
One of the clear plus points is that you'll find vertical blinds do a better job of blocking sunlight out with wider windows than you’ll find horizontal blinds manage. Maintenance is another good plus point, as they don’t have a horizontal surface for dust to accumulate on, and you won’t have to spend time wiping down each individual slat. But, of course, no blinds can remain completely clean. Vertical blinds are made out of a fabric that can pick up dust from the floor, as well as other dirt particles that can be tricky to clean. A way around this is to look for vertical blinds made out of wood, vinyl or aluminium.
In terms of value, vertical blinds can be a more reasonable option. But whilst they're relatively inexpensive, they tend not to last as long as other blinds and are difficult to repair if broken, so you might not find themsuch good value after all. One other final point to make is that they're made up of loose slats, which means they can clang together if any drafts or wind from an open window hits them. Mind you, this is only an issue if you have ones that are made from a harder material; a softer option will prevent the noise problem
Roller blinds represent another relatively reasonable option. They can be adjusted to an exact required height and can be purchased in a very wide range of styles and material types. One of the reasons for their popularity is due to the privacy they offer. They can help conserve heat on a cold day and keep the room cool on a warm one.
Nowadays, many people have smart roller blinds installed. If your goal is to have some easy-to-operate blinds, then smart roller blinds are a great choice to make, allowing you to control the light with just the touch of a button or a voice command.
One con that roller blinds have is that they aren't suitable for any irregularly-shaped windows. However, if you look into a made-to-measure option, a perfect fit is still possible.
If you have kids or pets, it's important to know that sometimes these types of blinds have dangling cords or chains. These can be very dangerous to kids and pets, however it's possible to find roller blinds that don’t have this hazard, so shop around.
